  1. a type of small snack cake made of flour, eggs, sugar, and a leavening agent, popularly eaten during festive seasons such as Hari Raya Puasa and Chinese New Year. They are similar in size to a madeleine, and may come in various shapes, with the most common being that of a fluted dome (i.e. the classic jelly dome shape). They may be crumbly and stiff, or soft and spongy, depending on preparation.
  2. When we were young, the grown-ups would sit around a stove with a fan in one hand and a towel in the other for the sweat to bake the toothsome kueh bahulu. Once the freshly baked kueh bahulu were ready, the kids would immediately stop whatever games they were playing and rush forward to pop a piece in their mouths.
