definitions

noun

  1. the edible fruit of Spondias dulcis, a tree native to Southeast Asia and the Pacific region. The fruits are egg-shaped and around 6 - 9 cm in length, and come in bunches of a dozen or more on a single stalk. They are good source of vitamins A, B, and C. They may be eaten raw, but are also commonly processed by pressing into a juice. The tree's leaves are sometimes used culinarily to impart a sour taste to dishes.[1][2][3]

usage notes

* The nasal vowel is almost always unmarked by speakers, though it is very important to the pronunciation of the term. In a dipthong or tripthong, the recommended convention is to mark the final vowel, unless it is spelled using a repeated letter, in which case the first-occurring repeated letter is marked.
