* Singlish is a largely spoken creole, and as such descriptivism (recording forms that reflect actual pronunciation in spoken language, or as appearing in the linguistic corpus) is more pertinent than strict prescriptivism. Nevertheless, the use of more standard forms (or for words originating in languages with Latin script, such as Malay, accurate to the original spelling) is recommended and encouraged.

definitions

noun

  1. a type of halal burger with a patty wrapped in an omelette, and topped with any of various sauces such as tomato sauce, chilli sauce, mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, etc.

usage notes

The burger was originally invented and sold by Ramly bin Mokni and later his Ramly brand, though it has become genericized and can refer to any such burger with a similar composition. In fact, as Ramly patties are not allowed to be imported into Singapore due to the lack of the local health certification, 'Ramly' burgers sold in the country are not actually from the Ramly brand — though most vendors continue using the brand’s name and wrapper regardless.
