* Singlish is a largely spoken creole, and as such descriptivism (recording forms that reflect actual pronunciation in spoken language, or as appearing in the linguistic corpus) is more pertinent than strict prescriptivism. adjective

  1. (derogatory, racist) of or relating excessively to China or Chinese culture, languages, or people. Carries a connotation of being gaudy, uncultured, or overly conservative.

usage notes

Considered quite racist and derogatory, especially by mainland Chinese people. Also associated with Japanese racism and imperialism against the Chinese.[2] However, it is a much milder term in Singapore, and is often used to playfully mock things or people that are overtly or garishly 'Chinese'.
