definitions
adjective
- (derogatory, racist) of or relating excessively to China or Chinese culture, languages, or people. Carries a connotation of being gaudy, uncultured, or overly conservative.
usage notes
Considered quite racist and derogatory, especially by mainland Chinese people. Also associated with Japanese racism and imperialism against the Chinese.[2] However, it is a much milder term in Singapore, and is often used to playfully mock things or people that are overtly or garishly 'Chinese'.
