Detailed etymology
definitions
noun
- a Malay snack food similar to a curry puff, but with a more blistered and crispy skin. It often also does not include curry, with other popular fillings including sardine, rendang, and black pepper chicken. It may be derived directly from the Portuguese empanada, unlike the curry puff which likely was influenced by the Cornish pasty.[2]
usage notes
Similar to, and sometimes used synonymously for, the karipap and the curry puff (kali pok).
