Detailed etymology
definitions
noun
- a type of small, soft Nyonya kueh made from a mixture of rice or tapioca flour flavoured with gula melaka and pandan, topped with grated coconut. It can be made with alkaline water (gan sui) to attain a more chewy, bouncy texture. Because of the gula melaka and pandan, they are usually brown or green in colour. Each kueh is traditionally steamed in an individual Chinese teacup, but they can also be made in any other small mold, or cut from a larger cake into bite-sized pieces.
