Detailed etymology
definitions
noun
- a cake with thin alternating light and dark layers of cake, each of which are made by repeatedly laying a layer of batter over the previous layer, baking it from above in an oven until set, then taking the cake out of the oven to put down a new layer. It has origins in colonial Dutch-Indonesian cuisine, and is known as spekkoek in Dutch and lapis legit in Indonesia.
- a bouncy, jelly-like steamed pudding made of rice and sago flour with coconut milk and sugar, which has several layers of different colours either made with natural colouring like pandan or with artificial food colouring
Eating more protein during breakfast may help to keep you full for longer, say experts. That, hopefully, would help you stop after your third slice of kueh lapis.
