* Singlish is a largely spoken creole, and as such descriptivism (recording forms that reflect actual pronunciation in spoken language, or as appearing in the linguistic corpus) is more pertinent than strict prescriptivism. Nevertheless, the use of more standard forms (or for words originating in languages with Latin script, such as Malay, accurate to the original spelling) is recommended and encouraged.

noun

  1. a Hokkien and Teochew dish of meat (usually pork) braised in soya sauce with several aromatics and spices, often with other ingredients such as hard-boiled eggs, mushrooms, or tau kwa. The meat is usually cut into bite-sized pieces and served on a platter with the other ingredients, or alternatively may be cubed or finely diced before braising.
  2. Lor bak isn’t a hawker dish. Unlike braised duck, it is also less likely to be found on the menus of restaurants. Still, it touches an emotional chord with many Singaporeans who encounter it at economic rice stalls or Teochew porridge stalls, if they are not lucky enough to enjoy it at home.
