Detailed etymology
definitions
noun
- a Malay-style chicken or seafood fried rice wrapped in a thin omelette and topped with chilli or tomato sauce. It is similar to the Japanese dish omurice, except that the omelette is much thinner and envelops the entire serving of rice.
The egg envelope further enhances the taste of the fried mee. Or, try the equally yummy nasi goreng Pattaya ($4). Similarly served, this rice variation is also popular.
— 1996 November 1, Pearlin Siow. Weekend East, "Egg-wrapped mee goreng". p.17
usage notes
The qualifier pattaya can also be used to describe related dishes prepared in a similar style with an omelette envelope, such as maggi goreng or mee goreng.
