  1. a plastic card issued to every Singaporean citizen and permanent resident (PR) which holds information such as a photograph, name, NRIC number, date of birth, race, etc. The card is pink for citizens and blue for PRs.
  2. (short for NRIC number) a unique nine-character identification number issued to every citizen or PR, beginning with an alphabetical character and (post-1968) two digits representing the holder's birth year, followed by a sequence of five digits representing their registration number within that year, and finally an alphabetical character as a checksum
