- Eudynamys scolopaceus, also known as the Asian koel, a medium-sized omnivorous bird in the cuckoo family. It is a brood parasite, laying its eggs in the nests of mynas and similar birds. It is well-known for its distinctive call, after which it is named, and which can sometimes be heard in the mornings in Singapore. The English name koel is also imitative in origin.
