* Singlish is a largely spoken creole, and as such descriptivism (recording forms that reflect actual pronunciation in spoken language, or as appearing in the linguistic corpus) is more pertinent than strict prescriptivism. Nevertheless, the use of more standard forms (or for words originating in languages with Latin script, such as Malay, accurate to the original spelling) is recommended and encouraged.

definitions
noun
- a Malay man or youth who listens to hard rock and heavy metal, and accordingly dresses like metal fans or rock stars, with long hair, leather or denim jackets, and ripped jeans, traits overall referred to as the mat rok subculture
The Mat Roker of the eighties wore almost skin tight jeans that came in all shades and were adorned with embroidered patches of heavy metal symbols. Hair was always kept long, sometimes past the waist. This was a direct affront to the government's policy on long hair.
