Detailed etymology
definitions
noun
- a garment traditionally worn in South and South-East Asia, which is usually a light, decoratively-printed cloth wrapped around the waist or sometimes under the armpits
I grew up in a world of sarongs. Grandma wore colourful, crisp sarongs, starched till they could function as mini changing rooms when left to stand on their own. My mother had a wider range — sarong kebaya or cheongsam for formal functions and celebrations, cotton blouses with sarong or pants for informal wear. Grandfather was always in cool, checked sarongs whenever in relaxation mode.
