- (military) title used before a commissioned officer's first name by enlisted men or non-commissioned officers to respectfully address or refer to them. Especially used for an officer who is closer in terms of age, military experience, or familiarity, or is holding a relatively small position such as platoon commander.

Officers holding higher positions and/or who are significantly older (or more experienced) than the speaker are usually addressed or referred to by their position's titles instead, such as 'CO' or 'OC'.
