Detailed etymology
definitions
noun
- a Hokkien dish of wheat noodles in a thick, starchy, soya-sauce-based gravy with a variety of toppings such as egg, sliced pork, ngo hiang, fish, fishcake, etc. It is often garnished with minced raw garlic, vinegar, sambal, and sliced chilli to taste. It is likely to be the predecessor of Hokkien mee, a popular Singaporean stir-fried noodle dish.
Where I grew up, in Sims Drive, there was an incredible lor mee stall that sold a version of lor mee that offered the option of mee pok, which accompanied the crispy freshly fried fish impeccably. I've not been able to find lor mee pok since.
