  1. the edible fruit of the tree Nephelium lappaceum, which has sweet, translucent white flesh and a thick, red and yellow skin covered in characteristic hair-like protrusions. It is a close relative of the less common pulasan, and also more distantly related to the lychee and longan.
  2. Quirky offerings bode well for the adventurous diner, though the more conservative would probably blanch at appetisers such as the Whacky Rambutan ($8.90).
